COMBINED OPERATIONS: THE OFFICIAL STORY OF THE COMMANDOS was written in England at the height of World War II. It is the story of how not only the British navy, marines, army and air force came under a central organized command, but as the other Allied Forces joined in the war effort, how they were utilized in this structure.
Written in 1943, it was felt that this was really the only method to defeat the Hitler war machine. It was predicted at that time that ambitious amphibious warfare as well as the air war was needed as the war continued. This did indeed play out, as well noted especially in Normandy, on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
The book includes illustrations, maps, as well as the detailed, very interesting text, of great interest to any student of military tactics and/or World War II.
