The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the largest accumulation of ocean plastic and human-made debris in the world.

This summer, the Maritime Museum of BC explores the issue of marine debris and ocean plastic with our Great Pacific Garbage Patch Exhibit! Join us on Wednesday, May 1 for the summer launch event of the exhibit.

Come take in the exhibit in a unique after hours experience including a bar and hors d'oeuvres. Chat with local vendors who are working hard to target the problem in our community, followed by live music and engaging presentations.

Mathilde Gordon, Daniel Greenwood, Seize Change – Fueled by a passion for protecting the oceans, and a love for the outdoors, Mathilde and Dan are committed to the fight against ocean plastic and marine debris. Their aim is to re-frame the face of adventure and inspire others to be stewards of the earth as they venture into the outdoors. In addition to living single-use plastic free, last year Mathilde kayaked 2,042km from Alaska to Victoria to raise awareness about marine debris and women in adventure. This year, the pair, have again set their sights on an adventure with a purpose, and will be circumnavigating Vancouver Island by sailboat, participating in beach cleanups, conducting citizen science, and organizing outreach events along the way! They will be sharing stories from their adventures and activism, as well as tips and tricks for eliminating single-use plastics, both in our day-to-day lives and on an adventure!
